publication · 2026-04-26

The series 'Le libere donne', consisting of six episodes and directed by Michele Soavi, is set to debut on Rai 1 on March 10. This production, co-created by Rai Fiction and Endemol Shine Italy, draws inspiration from Mario Tobino's autobiographical novel published in 1953, detailing his four-decade tenure in the female section of the Maggiano asylum in 1943. The narrative centers on Tobino (played by Lino Guanciale) as he confronts oppressive practices, while interacting with characters Margherita Lenzi (Grace Kicaj) and Paola Levi (Gaia Messerklinger). Dall'Orto portrays Lilli, the youngest resident, who prepares by studying a 'timid, distrustful, virginal Magdalene' and works with Simone Zambelli on movement. Filming took place in a decommissioned hospital wing, highlighting collaborative efforts. Following the series, Dall'Orto intends to present her monologue titled 'Come si mette a letto un padre?'.
