Gea Casolaro's Mare Magnum Nostrum: A Collective Mediterranean Archive

exhibition · 2026-04-27

Artist Gea Casolaro launches Mare Magnum Nostrum, a participatory project exploring the Mediterranean as a crossroads of cultures and immigration. Curated by Leonardo Regano, it is promoted by the Direzione Regionale Musei dell'Emilia-Romagna with Hulu – Split and qwatz-contemporary art platform, supported by Italian Council (VIII edition, 2020). A call for photos of the Mediterranean and its coasts invites public submissions to build an image archive. The first installation runs November 12–26, 2020, in the Torre Sud-Est of Diocletian's Palace in Split, Croatia. The final work will be acquired by the Museo Nazionale di Ravenna, with a concluding exhibition in spring 2021. Participants upload photos with location and year, plus an emotion or thought, to maremagnumnostrum.art.
