GDT Nature Photographer of the Year 2026 Winners Announced

award · 2026-05-04

Luca Lorenz has won the GDT Nature Photographer of the Year 2026 for his painterly photo of a mountain hare, captured using long exposure and intentional camera movements. The image highlights the threat of climate change to Alpine hares, whose seasonal fur color change leads to 'color mismatch' when snow fails to arrive. Lorenz beat 546 GDT members from 15 countries, with nearly 9,000 images submitted. Other winners include Radomir Jakubowski (Birds), Jens Cullmann (Other Animals), Tobias Richter (Plants and Fungi), Eike Christian (Landscapes), Beate Oswald (Nature's Studio), Roy Müller (Jury Prize), and Dieter Damschen (Special category).
