Gaza Photo Exhibition at Madrid's Thyssen-Bornemisza Museum

exhibition · 2026-04-26

The Museo Nacional Thyssen-Bornemisza in Madrid has opened a powerful photography exhibition titled 'Gaza a través de sus ojos' (Gaza Through Their Eyes), featuring 27 anonymous images taken by Palestinian photojournalists documenting daily life in the Gaza Strip since October 2023. The exhibition, on view until October 19, is a collaboration with UNRWA and the European Union's Civil Protection and Humanitarian Aid department (ECHO). Museum director Guillermo Solana stated that the initiative honors the heroism of Palestinian photojournalists and UNRWA's humanitarian work, following last year's exhibition on the war in Ukraine. The photos, displayed in the museum's entrance hall, are accompanied by brief texts explaining circumstances and locations. UNRWA Spain president Raquel Martí emphasized the need to protect the anonymity of photographers who are military targets for Israel, noting that over 200 reporters have been killed since the Israeli attack began. Spanish Culture Minister Ernst Urtasun attended the opening, asserting that culture can open eyes and raise the flag of peace. The exhibition coincides with the Spanish government's approval of an arms embargo against Israel. Two images will also be displayed on the facade of the Museo de Antropología de Madrid, opposite Atocha station. The exhibition is free to enter.
