Gaza flotilla activists detained by Israel face court hearing
Two foreign activists from a Gaza-bound aid flotilla were brought to Israel for interrogation and appeared in court on Sunday. The flotilla of over 50 vessels, which set sail from France, Spain, and Italy, aimed to break Israel's blockade of Gaza. Israeli forces intercepted the flotilla in international waters off Greece on Thursday, removing some 175 activists. Two of them, Spanish national Saif Abu Keshek and Brazilian Thiago Avilo, were taken to Israel and appeared before a court in Ashqelon. The state requested a four-day extension of their detention, according to Miriam Azem of the rights group Adalah. Adalah lawyers met the detainees at Shikma Prison on Saturday.
