Gaza Biennial's Brooklyn Outpost Presents Displaced Artworks as 'Final Call'
The Gaza Biennial's New York Pavilion, titled 'From Gaza to the World,' was inaugurated at Brooklyn's Recess from September 10 to 14, 2025. Curated by Fidaa Ataya, Andreas Ibrahim, and Tasneem Shatat in collaboration with the Al Risan Art Museum, the exhibition showcases the works of 53 Gaza-based artists. Due to military restrictions, many original pieces could not be transported, leading to the display of reproductions. Notable works include Emad Badwan's videos and Alsholy's film 'Escape from Farida' (2025). The exhibition highlights themes of impermanence through temporary installations and reproductions, such as Firas Thabet's 'Gaznica' (2025), reflecting the dire conditions in Gaza, where the IDF faces accusations of genocide, resonating with Giorgio Agamben's idea of 'bare life.'
