Gauri Gill Curates 'Sheher, Prakriti, Devi' at Ishara Art Foundation

The 'Sheher, Prakriti, Devi' exhibition at the Ishara Art Foundation in Dubai marks Gauri Gill's debut as a curator. This showcase delves into the intricate connections among urban environments, nature, and spirituality, featuring twelve artists and collectives. The title is derived from Hindustani terms meaning 'city', 'nature', and 'deity'. Central to the exhibition is Gill's ongoing project 'Rememory', which has documented urban and semi-urban areas in India since 2003. The display illustrates a landscape where natural and man-made elements coexist: porous walls created by termites, unfinished roads behind open gates, migratory birds in ruins, and post-colonial homes occupied by pigeons. Notable artists include Chamba Rumal, Chiara Camoni, and others, with loans sourced from various collections. Sabih Ahmed collaborates with Gill on the curation.
