Gaudenzio Ferrari retrospective spans three cities in major Italian exhibition

A significant retrospective dedicated to Renaissance artist Gaudenzio Ferrari is taking place in Varallo, Vercelli, and Novara, with each location emphasizing distinct stages of his career. Curated by Gianni Romano and involving emerging scholars, the exhibition seeks to elevate Ferrari, who was recognized by Giovanni Paolo Lomazzo as one of the seven 'Governors' of painting, despite his relative obscurity. Varallo features his early work exemplified by the 1513 fresco cycle at Santa Maria delle Grazie. Vercelli presents his mature phase through the San Cristoforo frescoes, while Novara examines his last ten years in Milan. The exhibition also includes pieces by contemporaries such as Perugino and loans from the Louvre, acknowledging Giovanni Testori's research and aiming to enhance accessibility to Ferrari's art across all venues.
