Gasworks Opens Applications for Third Shelagh Wakely Residency for Latin American Artists
Gasworks, a London non-profit gallery, is now accepting applications for the third Shelagh Wakely Residency. The program offers a fully-funded eleven-week residency from 11 April for an artist based in Latin America. Previous recipients include Tania Perez Cordova in 2013 and Andrea Canepa in 2014. Shelagh Wakely, a London-based artist who died in 2011, developed an interest in the Brazilian avant-garde through her friendship with Brazilian artist Tunga. Her Kentish Town home became a gathering place for Latin American artists visiting London. The residency is funded by a bequest administered by the Elephant Trust.
