Gasiorowski's Monumental Paintings at Fondation Maeght

exhibition · 2026-04-12

From June 30 to September 26, 2012, the Fondation Maeght in Saint-Paul-de-Vence showcases a significant exhibition dedicated to Gérard Gasiorowski, highlighting his paintings, including some rarely displayed. Among the monumental works featured are "Stances" (1986), which spans 40 meters, and "Chemin de peinture," a 50-meter canvas laid on the floor. His extensive monochrome pieces in gray incorporate figurative aspects, encouraging viewers to interpret each segment as an independent scene. The exhibition chronicles his artistic journey through various thematic phases, including an 11-year break from 1953 to 1964, and concludes with two contemporary works, "Régressions" and "Recouvrements." Gasiorowski passed away at the age of 56 in 1986. A catalogue edited by Olivier Kaeppelin is available for the exhibition.
