Garbatella IMAGES 2020: Third Edition Explores Invisible Cities

Garbatella IMAGES, winner of the Estate Romana 2020-2021-2022 public notice and part of the Romarama cultural program, returns for its third edition as part of a three-year project titled 'Memoria tra Passato, Presente e Futuro'. Curator Francesco Zizola asked participating artists to reinterpret Italo Calvino's 'Le città invisibili' to create works reflecting on the historic Roman neighborhood, which celebrates its 100th anniversary. The project aims to valorize and narrate Garbatella in its entirety, engaging the community through workshops and exhibitions. New works dialogue with public and private historical archives to develop a new memory, as seen in Claudia Corrent's historical and visual stratification in her photographs. Bénédicte Kurzen contributes a socio-anthropological exploration, while Gherardo Gossi, together with Zizola, follows Calvino's text, aware of the utopian dimension the 'garden city' can still express. The first short film titled 'PASSATO' will be screened within a Garbatella lot, while archival research material will be projected simultaneously at the gallery exhibition. The exhibition takes place at 10b Photography, Via San Lorenzo da Brindisi, 10b, Rome, with mandatory reservations for guided tours and workshops.
