Garage Museum releases documentary 'Poor Folk. Kabakovs' about Russian artists Ilya and Emilia Kabakov
Garage in Moscow has produced a documentary film titled 'Poor Folk. Kabakovs' about Russian artists Ilya and Emilia Kabakov. The film's name references Fyodor Dostoevsky's first novel and reflects the artists' focus on ordinary people and their daily lives in the Soviet Union. Filming occurred between 2017 and 2018 at the Kabakovs' Long Island home and in St. Petersburg. The documentary includes previously unpublished photographs and videos from the artists' personal archive and Garage's Archive Collection. This release coincides with Ilya Kabakov's 85th birthday and marks the 10th anniversary of Garage, which opened with a Kabakov retrospective. 'Poor Folk.
