Garage Museum of Contemporary Art celebrates 10th anniversary in 2018
The Garage Museum of Contemporary Art in Moscow, founded by Roman Abramovich and Dasha Zhukova, will celebrate its 10th anniversary in 2018 with a series of exhibitions and events. Despite announcing their separation, the former couple will continue to co-found the museum and the New Holland Island cultural center in St. Petersburg. The museum will feature artists from its first decade, including Urs Fischer, who redesigned the museum's logo. International artists such as Andro Wekua, Tarek Atoui, Council, Anri Sala, and Damian Ortega will present new works throughout the year. The museum's building, originally the Vremena Goda restaurant, was renovated by Rem Koolhaas and OMA, transforming it into a 5,400-square-meter contemporary museum with five exhibition spaces, an atrium, auditorium, educational spaces, a children's creative center, bookstore, and café. The building itself celebrates its 50th anniversary in 2018. The museum is located in Gorky Park, which will turn 90 in 2018. Director Anton Belov emphasized the unique architecture as integral to the institution, describing it as a departure from the standard white cube.
