digital · 2026-04-27

The Garage Museum of Contemporary Art in Moscow has launched Garage Digital, a web platform exploring the intersection of technology and visual culture. Founded in 2008 by Dasha Zhukova and Roman Abramovich, the museum positions Garage Digital as a space for experimentation, an archive, and an exhibition venue. The platform includes four sections: Projects (commissioned art and research), Materials (texts and videos on digital art and culture), Events (lectures, masterclasses, residencies), and Grants (seasonal funding for artists researching art and technology). Director Anton Belov emphasized that Garage Digital is not an internet museum or a ghetto for digital art but aims to contextualize contemporary digital art as a product of new ways of thinking and living, addressing big data, neural networks, game engines, and computer graphics. The museum plans to complement the online platform with offline exhibitions and events, asserting equal importance for both online and physical presence.
