Garage Museum Launches Accessibility Program for Disabled Visitors

The Garage Museum of Contemporary Art in Moscow, founded by Dasha Zhukova and Roman Abramovich, has launched a program to make contemporary art more accessible to disabled visitors. The initiative debuted during the exhibition "Co-thinkers," featuring works by Maurizio Cattelan, Robert Rauschenberg, and James Turrell. The exhibition includes 3D models and touch screen displays to provide a tactile experience for visually impaired visitors, allowing them to navigate independently. Curator Anastasia Mityushina emphasized that visitors do not need to announce their presence or request special treatment. This program is among the first of its kind in Russia, a country where discrimination and social exclusion remain concerns. Meanwhile, Vice Media has acquired a majority stake in Garage Magazine, retaining Dasha Zhukova as head of the publishing company and adding a New York team. In Italy, accessibility is improving: the Museo Lucia Guderzo in Genoa focuses on technologies for the visually impaired; the Museo Tattile Omero in Varese, the Fondazione Sandretto Re Rebaudengo in Turin, and the Museo della Scienza e della Tecnica in Milan have launched accessible projects; and the Gamec in Bergamo offers guided tours in sign language.
