Garage Museum Expands to St. Petersburg with New Holland Island Exhibition Program

institutional · 2026-04-20

The Garage Museum of Contemporary Art is launching a satellite location in St. Petersburg on New Holland Island, a historic triangular landmass constructed in 1719 for shipbuilding that has long been neglected. Millhouse Capital, established by Roman Abramovich, supports the island's redevelopment; Abramovich's wife Dasha Zhukova founded the Garage Museum. A new exhibition program will be inaugurated with the show Experiences of the Imaginary, featuring emerging Russian artists and running until 25 September 2016. This expansion follows the Moscow institution's recent move into a building designed by Rem Koolhaas.
