GAMeC Launches Film Program 'A Practice of Freedom' for 2026
GAMeC, in collaboration with Lab 80 film and the University of Bergamo's Department of Foreign Languages, Literatures and Cultures, presents 'A Practice of Freedom', a film program tied to the 'Pedagogia della Speranza' interdisciplinary initiative exploring education as a practice of freedom and transformation. Starting in 2026, monthly screenings will mix classics, auteur films, and artist videos. Inspired by Paulo Freire and bell hooks, the program tackles marginalization, pedagogical experimentation, and ethical technology use. On September 11, six artists present works on resistance and freedom: Karimah Ashadu's 'MUSCLE' (2025) portrays bodybuilders in a Lagos slum gym; Jonathas de Andrade's 'Sorelle senza nome' (2025) follows missionary nuns who left vows during Brazil's dictatorship; Ane Hjort Guttu's 'Freedom Requires Free People' (2011) critiques school rules in Oslo; Driant Zeneli's 'How deep can a dragonfly swim under the ocean?' (2021) links a trapped dragonfly to Albanian political prisoner Rilond Risto; Pauline Curnier Jardin's 'Adoration' (2022) animates drawings by female inmates in Venice; Harun Farocki's 'Bedtime Stories: Bridges, Ships, Cats' (1976/77) features twin girls inventing stories.
