GAMeC Bergamo unveils biennial program 'Pensare come una montagna' for 2024-2025

GAMeC – Galleria d'Arte Moderna e Contemporanea di Bergamo has announced its 2024-2025 cultural program titled 'Pensare come una montagna' (Thinking Like a Mountain). The title is borrowed from Aldo Leopold's 1949 book 'A Sand County Almanac', which advocates for an ecosystemic perspective. The program will involve 20 international artists and span the entire Bergamo province, from the Prealps to urban parks. It opens on May 16, 2024, with a first cycle of exhibitions, collective performances, and creative workshops running until September 2024. The first artists include Sonia Boyce (winner of the Golden Lion at the 2022 Venice Biennale for the British Pavilion), Lin May Saeed (posthumous retrospective in collaboration with Biennale Gherdëina), Studio Ossidiana with Frantoio Sociale, Chiara Gambirasio, and Mercedes Azpilicueta. Boyce will present 'Benevolence' at Palazzo della Ragione's Sala delle Capriate; Gambirasio will work with Fondazione Dalmine's historical archive; Azpilicueta will participate in the third edition of ON AIR – Argentina-Italy Art Residency. An online magazine curated by Valentina Gervasoni will accompany the project, featuring critical texts, reportage, and audiovisual contributions. Radio GAMeC will continue with a new format. Director Lorenzo Giusti describes the approach as 'adventurous', emphasizing learning by doing, experimentation, and shared flexibility.
