GAMeC Bergamo Hosts Christian Frosi Retrospective After Artist Quit Career
GAMeC in Bergamo presents a monographic exhibition dedicated to Christian Frosi (Milan, 1973), who deliberately ceased his artistic activity in 2012 after a decade of rising success. Curated by Nicola Ricciardi, the show re-stages Frosi's 2007 exhibition at Fondazione Sandretto Re Rebaudengo in Turin, adapted for the Bergamo venue. Frosi's practice was characterized by ephemeral, performative interventions—such as a soap bubble cloud for his 2003 solo show in Milan—and a refusal to finalize works until the last moment. The exhibition features about thirty works, including 'New Title OIOIOIOIOIO,' where a sponge base holds the dismantled lighting system of Galleria Zero…, stripped of its original function. Frosi collaborated closely with artist Diego Perrone, blurring individual authorship. His decision to stop making art, without public explanation, challenges the notion of an artist's identity and career trajectory. The show runs at GAMeC, with Ricciardi also serving as artistic director of miart fair and recently relocating to Bergamo.
