GAMeC Bergamo Explores Matter Transformation in 'Nulla è perduto'
GAMeC Bergamo presents 'Nulla è perduto. Arte e materia in trasformazione', an exhibition inspired by Lavoisier's principle that matter is neither created nor destroyed but transformed. Curated by Anna Daneri and Lorenzo Giusti, it is the second chapter of the 'Trilogia della materia' project, following 2018's 'Black Hole. Arte e matericità tra Informe e Invisibile'. While the first chapter examined matter from a scientific perspective in dialogue with modern physics, this edition focuses on artists who reflect on matter and its transformations in relation to change and time. The exhibition is structured around the four classical elements—Fire, Earth, Water, Air—as states of matter aggregation, exploring their relationships and transformations: fire/burning state, earth/solid state, water/liquid state, air/gaseous state. It also touches on alchemy. Featured artists range from surrealists Marcel Duchamp, Max Ernst, Man Ray, and Leonora Carrington, to Yves Klein, Otto Piene, Robert Smithson, Hans Haacke, Arte Povera artists Pier Paolo Calzolari and Paolo Icaro, and contemporaries Olafur Eliasson, Wolfgang Tillmans, Cyprien Gaillard, Otobong Nkanga, and Erika Verzutti. The exhibition runs until February 13, 2022, at GAMeC, Via San Tomaso 53, Bergamo.
