GAMeC Bergamo explores emptiness in art from avant-garde to VR
The GAMeC in Bergamo presents 'Salto nel vuoto' (Leap into the Void), a group exhibition examining the concept of emptiness in art from the historical avant-garde to contemporary virtual reality experiments. The show borrows its title from Yves Klein's 1960 performance, documented by a famous photograph. Curated by Lorenzo Giusti and Domenico Quaranta, it is the final chapter of a trilogy on matter in 20th- and 21st-century art that began in 2018. Featuring about 80 artists, the exhibition is divided into three sections: Void, Flow, and Simulation. Highlights include works by Dadamaino, Agostino Bonalumi, Enrico Castellani, Fabio Mauri, Pablo Picasso, Giacomo Balla, Duane Hanson, René Magritte, and Ai Weiwei. The Simulation section incorporates both traditional materials and technological experiments, concluding with a look toward virtual reality and immersive experiences.
