Game Video/Art. A Survey explores machinima and video art at IULM Milan
The exhibition 'Game Video/Art. A Survey' at Università IULM in Milan, curated by Matteo Bittanti and Vincenzo Trione, examines the relationship between video games and video art. Running until July 31, the show features machinima works by international and Italian artists including Joseph Delappe, Claire Evans, Marco Mendeni, Victor Morales, Paolo Pedercini, and Palle Torsson. These films are created in real time using game engines from popular titles like The Sims, SimCity, Grand Theft Auto, and Call of Duty, treating games as open platforms for modification and remixing. The exhibition also includes paintings by Miltos Manetas, who explores video game aesthetics, and a premiere of Bill Viola's 'The Night Journey', developed with the Game Innovation Lab at the University of Southern California. Second-year master's students in arts, heritage, and markets, coordinated by Anna Luigia De Simone, contributed to the curatorial and organizational aspects, making the project a didactic platform.
