exhibition · 2026-04-27

The group exhibition 'Is This Real? L’arte nell’epoca della Game Engine Culture' at FMAV – Fondazione Modena Arti Visive in Modena, Italy, curated by Valentino Catricalà, explores how game engines have evolved from gaming tools to pervasive mediators of contemporary visual culture. The show features works by artists born between the 1980s and 1990s, including Mishka Henner, Joshua Citarella & Jacob Hurwitz-Goodman, Jakob Kudsk Steensen, Oliver Laric, Federica Di Pietrantonio, Quayola, Donato Piccolo, DIS, and Auriea Harvey. Quayola's 'Promenade' uses drone footage over Swiss forests to create machine vision landscapes, while Jakob Kudsk Steensen's VR experience reveals microbial life. Donato Piccolo's 'Video Machine Mobile' is a robotic sculpture with a 1970s Mivar TV that interacts autonomously. The exhibition addresses themes of artificial identity, post-anthropocentrism, and the Anthropocene. It runs at FMAV's MODAL Gallery in Modena.
