GAM Torino unveils new 20th-century collection layout with subdued tones
The Galleria Civica d'Arte Moderna e Contemporanea (GAM) in Turin has reopened its doors, showcasing a newly arranged 20th-century collection named 'Il primato dell'opera'. Unlike the vibrant colors of the previous 19th-century exhibit three years ago, this installation employs more muted tones of gray-green and white, which enhance the clarity of its historical narrative. Comprising 194 artworks, 43 were sourced from the Fondazione Ettore De Fornaris through donations and acquisitions from global galleries, dating from the 1920s to today. After months of closure, President of Fondazione Torino Musei Maurizio Cibrario announced the reopening. GAM director Riccardo Passoni mentioned that the revision, which started last year, features half new works and spans nineteen rooms, with minimal educational text, showcasing movements from historical avant-gardes to Arte Povera. Noteworthy pieces include a blue Chagall from the 1948 Venice Biennale and Giosetta Fioroni's 'Ragazza della tv', alongside dedicated rooms for artists like Felice Casorati and Alberto Burri.
