GAM Torino organizes hypnotic bus trip to Émile Gallé's La Main aux Algues in Nancy

exhibition · 2026-05-05

The GAM (Galleria d'Arte Moderna e Contemporanea) of Turin has organized a bus trip for only 17 participants to visit Émile Gallé's sculpture La Main aux Algues (1904) in Nancy, France, as a performative extension of the exhibition 'Organismi. Dall’Art Nouveau di Émile Gallé alla Bioarchitettura,' on view until November 6. The journey, directed by artist Marcos Lutyens, will include hypnosis inspired by Gallé's visit to the School of Hypnology in Nancy, music by Morten Norbye Halvorsen, words from philosopher-biologist Antoine Danchin, and scents to enhance plant consciousness. The itinerary includes an overnight stay, a visit to the Musée de l'École de Nancy, and a meal at the Brasserie Excelsior. The sculpture is considered a milestone of the Art Nouveau movement in Nancy, a city on the Franco-German border that was home to intellectuals who rejected the annexation of Alsace-Moselle to Prussia.
