GAM Milano Opens Storage to Public with Sculpture Restoration Program

exhibition · 2026-05-05

The Galleria d'Arte Moderna (GAM) in Milan has introduced 'Sottosopra. Una riserva di sorprese dai depositi della Galleria d'Arte Moderna', a guided tour initiative exploring its underground storage areas, available on weekends until March 19, 2017. This program features an Atelier di restauro dedicated to preserving seventy sculptures using methods such as agar-agar. These restored pieces will be included in the exhibition '100 anni. La scultura a Milano dal 1815 al 1915', set to open on March 19, 2017. Director Paola Zatti, who has been at the helm for nearly five years, is reorganizing collections and strengthening GAM's identity, while also addressing Italy's challenges in museology and collaborating with UBS for financial support. The tours aim to showcase hidden treasures from private donations.
