Gallery Weekend Beijing 2020 Showcases Ambitious Exhibitions Across Multiple Venues
Gallery Weekend Beijing's fourth edition features ambitious exhibitions across multiple venues. UCCA Center for Contemporary Art presents 'Meditations in an Emergency', curated by six UCCA curators in under a month, featuring twenty-six artists including Pierre Huyghe, Amiko Li, Han Bing, and Zhang Hui. The exhibition includes five sections addressing global public health crises, with international artists contributing video works due to shipping restrictions. SPURS Gallery shows Wang Jiajia's new paintings 'Elegant, Circular, Timeless', featuring thirteen pairs of eyes in mixed media. Galleria Continua celebrates fifteen years in China with a program that began in October 2019, featuring monthly interventions by Daniel Buren and new video works by Kader Attia and Hans Op De Beeck. Beijing Commune presents Ge Yulu's first solo exhibition, where the artist generates electricity by bicycle to power the show. Hive Center for Contemporary Art exhibits Pu Yingwei's 'Time, History, Why We Fight', featuring paintings, video works, and installations exploring identity and geopolitics. The event highlights contemporary art in Beijing's 798 district, which has transformed from outskirts to world-famous art district since Galleria Continua's arrival in 2004.
