Gallerie dell'Accademia to Host Willem de Kooning Exhibition in Venice 2024

The Gallerie dell'Accademia in Venice will present a major exhibition on Willem de Kooning from April 16 to September 15, 2024, coinciding with the 60th Venice Biennale (April 20–November 24, 2024). Curated by Gary Garrels and Mario Codognato, the show focuses on de Kooning's two Italian sojourns in 1959 and 1969 and their impact on his work. It features a selection of paintings, drawings, and sculptures from the late 1950s to the 1980s, revealing for the first time the lasting effect of these creative periods. The exhibition is organized in collaboration with the Willem de Kooning Foundation and continues the Accademia's series of retrospectives on major contemporary artists, following shows on Georg Baselitz (2019) and Anish Kapoor (2022).
