Galleria Zema Opens in Rome, Championing Female Photographers

exhibition · 2026-04-26

On March 6, 2025, Galleria Zema opened on Via Giulia in Rome, a historic Renaissance street already home to Galleria Eugenia Delfini and Deodato Arte. Founded by former entrepreneur and psychotherapist Emanuela Zamparelli, the gallery is dedicated to promoting national and international female photographic talents. Its inaugural exhibition, “Photographers’ gazes on the world,” featured Daria Addabbo, Luisa Dorr, and Kiana Hayer, co-curated by Alessia Locatelli, director of the Biennale della Fotografia Femminile in Mantua. The show addressed urgent contemporary issues: Addabbo documented the California drought, Dorr re-signified cultural traditions through feminist practices, and Hayer explored systemic violence against women. Subsequent exhibitions included Daniela Cavallo’s “Colors,” focusing on layered artistic languages, and Juliette Wayenberg’s “Grete (Wykofer),” curated by Bianca Ceriani, which reworks archival photographs using cyanotype. Wayenberg’s show runs until November 15, 2025. Zamparelli stated that the gallery’s curatorial focus will remain on contemporary photography for its first year, with possible expansion into broader contemporary art in the future.
