Galleria Verticale Opens in Historic Palazzo Marignoli in Rome

exhibition · 2026-05-26

A new free-admission art gallery, Galleria Verticale, has opened in Palazzo Marignoli in central Rome. The gallery, inaugurated in early May 2026, displays the Allianz Italia art collection across multiple floors, covering 19th and 20th-century painting. The collection traces the evolution of painting between Trieste and Italy, featuring works by Francesco Hayez, Umberto Veruda, Alfredo Tomiz, Arturo Rietti, Pietro Marussig, Dyalma Stultus, and Romano Rossini. The exhibition is curated by Claudia Crosera and Aulo Guagnini and runs until May 5, 2027. The palace, built in 1883 by architect Salvatore Bianchi for Marquis Filippo Marignoli, underwent a complete renovation from 2016 to 2020. It houses an Apple flagship store designed by Norman Foster, which preserves frescoes by Afro Basaldella from the former Caffè Aragno. The gallery also includes a section on the restoration and reproduction of the equestrian monument of Marcus Aurelius. Visitors can explore the Biblioteca di Palazzo Marignoli, restored in 2025, featuring a ceiling copy of Raphael's Council of the Gods. The gallery is open Tuesday to Friday by online reservation, with free entry and an audioguide.
