Galleria Tornabuoni to Open in Rome with Lucio Fontana Show
Galleria Tornabuoni, one of Italy's most powerful galleries, will open a new location in Rome on April 20, 2023. The gallery, named after Florence's Via Tornabuoni and owned by the Casamonti family, has chosen the luxury shopping district around Via Condotti, specifically Via Bocca di Leone 88, near Palazzo Torlonia. The space is approximately 170 square meters in an internal courtyard, but a condominium agreement allows the gate to remain open, making the gallery visible from the street. Directed by Andrea Bizzarro (who will split his time between Rome and Forte dei Marmi), the Rome branch will be managed by Arianna Paragallo, formerly of Galleria Monitor in Rome. The opening exhibition will be a Lucio Fontana show, one of the gallery's most emblematic artists. Roberto Casamonti dedicated the exhibition to the memory of Enrico Crispolti, with support from the Fondazione Lucio Fontana and critical contribution by Luca Massimo Barbero. A catalog published by Forma Edizioni includes texts by Enrico Crispolti, Luca Massimo Barbero, Gillo Dorfles, and a handwritten document by Piero Dorazio. The gallery already has locations in Florence (a three-story palazzo-museum designed by Studio Archea), Paris, and London. The Rome space is expected to be ready by winter, possibly by the end of February 2023.
