Galleria Sabauda Opens New Space for Dutch Masters' Prints

The Galleria Sabauda in Turin has inaugurated a new temporary exhibition space, Spazio Scoperte, dedicated to graphic works from its collections. Located on the second floor of the museum, the two previously unused rooms feature controlled lighting under 50 lux, allowing for three annual rotations of prints. The inaugural show, "L'occhio fedele. Incisori olandesi del Seicento," curated by Giorgio Careddu, presents thirty etchings by Rembrandt, Both, Waterloo, Du Jardin, Berchem, van Ostade, and others, alongside a few paintings. The exhibition explores the Dutch Golden Age of engraving, a period when the art market shifted toward prints due to bourgeois taste after the Dutch split from Spanish-controlled Flanders in 1585. Director Enrica Pagella noted that the new space enables display of previously unexplored vaults and aims to strengthen ties with Northern European museums. Future exhibitions will feature Dürer and Tiepolo. The show runs from November 8, 2016, to February 26, 2017, at the Musei Reali – Galleria Sabauda.
