Galleria Russo in Rome Celebrates Margherita Sarfatti with Major Exhibition

exhibition · 2026-04-27

Located near Piazza di Spagna in Rome, Galleria Russo has been showcasing art since 1898. The exhibition titled 'Margherita Sarfatti e l’arte in Italia fra le due guerre' runs until October 31 and includes more than fifty pieces from the Sarfatti Collection, featuring renowned artists such as Medardo Rosso, Mario Sironi, and Adolfo Wildt. Margherita Sarfatti (1880-1961), a significant art critic and collector, played a crucial role in Mussolini’s era. Notable works include Giacomo Balla's 'S’è rotto l’incanto' (1922) and eleven pieces by Wildt in a dedicated room. Additionally, Sironi's 'Ritratto di Margherita Sarfatti' (1916-17) is on display. Medardo Rosso's 'Ecce puer' will be featured at the Flashback fair in Turin (November 5-8). The exhibition also presents photographs, books, and a catalog with contributions from Corrado Augias, Fabio Benzi, and Rachele Ferrario, organized by gallerist Fabrizio Russo, who fondly remembers his grandparents' visits to Sarfatti's salons.
