Galleria Nazionale honors two pioneering Roman gallerists with archival exhibitions

exhibition · 2026-04-27

The Galleria Nazionale d’Arte Moderna e Contemporanea in Rome has unveiled two exhibitions showcasing the archives of gallerists Mara Coccia and Daniela Ferraria, which were gifted to the museum. Curated by Ilaria Bernardi and Francesca Gallo, these exhibitions explore the histories of their galleries. Coccia’s Arco d’Alibert was in operation from 1963 until 1970, and Ferraria, who had been Coccia’s assistant, revived it in 1975. Coccia established her own gallery in 1982. Both gallerists had close ties with artists such as Franco Angeli and Alexander Calder, who displayed their work in 1967. Notable pieces include Angeli’s Natale di Roma (1964) and images from Aldo Mondino’s 1968 performance. Ferraria’s section showcases small works from her collection, complemented by a catalog from Silvana Editoriale.
