Galleria Milano closes historic Milan venue after nearly 50 years

exhibition · 2026-04-27

Galleria Milano, one of Milan's most historic galleries, is closing its long-time venue on Via Manin/Via Turati after nearly 50 years. Founded by Carla Pellegrini and her husband Baldo in 1973, the gallery moved to the double-entrance space that year and became a landmark of the city's cultural scene. Following Carla's death in 2019, rising real estate pressures in the rapidly changing area near the Quadrilatero della Moda forced the gallery to leave. However, Nicola Pellegrini, who now runs the gallery with Toni Merola and Bianca Trevisan, emphasizes that this is not a closure of the gallery itself but only of its current location, as the lease expired. The gallery is celebrating its history with a final group exhibition titled "Here. Between not-yet and no-more" (May 10–June 30, 2022), featuring over forty artists who have contributed to its legacy. Many works are site-specific and donated, including pieces by Gianfranco Baruchello, Grazia Varisco, Luca Vitone, and Cesare Viel. The gallery plans to reopen in a new, character-rich space (not a white cube) after Christmas, though the location is not yet disclosed.
