Galleria Michela Rizzo Opens Second Location in Mestre

exhibition · 2026-04-27

Venice-based Galleria Michela Rizzo is expanding to Mestre with a new space at via Torre Belfredo 49C. The gallery, which opened its first Venetian location in 2004 and moved to Palazzo Palumbo Fossati in 2008, has been at its current Giudecca site since 2013. The inaugural exhibition in Mestre features works by Antonio Calderara (1903–1978), Riccardo Guarneri (b. 1933), and Saverio Rampin (1930–1992), all known for abstract geometric painting with pastel tones. Calderara transitioned from impressionism to abstraction, influenced by Fontana and Manzoni. Rampin, associated with Venetian Spatialism, shifted from vibrant colors to delicate hues after meeting Virgilio Guidi. Guarneri, the only living artist in the show, moved from figurative painting to informal abstraction, inspired by Zen masters. The gallery continues its practice of alternating established international artists—such as Fabio Mauri, León Ferrari, Francesco Jodice, Claudio Costa, and Hermann Nitsch—with emerging talents. During the 2022 Venice Biennale, the Giudecca space hosted the group show (in)visible fields – space as energy, featuring Hamish Fulton, Antoni Muntadas, Cesare Pietroiusti, David Rickard, Mariateresa Sartori, and waiwai research and design agency represented by Wael Al Awar (Golden Lion winner at the 2021 Architecture Biennale).
