Galleria Michela Rizzo closes Giudecca space, returns to Palazzo Palumbo Fossati

institutional · 2026-04-26

Galleria Michela Rizzo has closed its second location on the Giudecca island in Venice, where it had been since 2013, and returned to its original home at Palazzo Palumbo Fossati, a 16th-century building in central Venice where the gallery operated from 2008 to 2014. The decision was forced by the sale of the Giudecca space, which the gallery had to vacate. The closure coincides with the termination of the lease at Palazzo Palumbo Fossati by the previous owner, allowing the gallery to move back. The gallery's final exhibition at Giudecca was 'Boulder', a group show that used the image of a boulder to 'preserve the memory of a place and a shared time'. Currently, the gallery is presenting 'Quando il cielo finisce', a solo show by Andrea Mastrovito (born 1978 in Bergamo), marking renewal and continuity. Future plans include a show for Fabio Mauri's centenary in May, coinciding with the Venice Biennale. In 2025, the gallery also opened a Milan location at Via Stelvio 66 in collaboration with Simone Frittelli, inaugurated with Francesco Jodice's 'Torre Bianca e altri luoghi comuni' (until February 7). Upcoming Milan artists include Dadamaino and Antoni Muntadas, represented by Frittelli Arte Contemporanea and Galleria Michela Rizzo respectively. Gallerist Michela Rizzo stated the gallery will continue to support its artists and emerging talents, maintaining its programming level.
