Galleria Marta opens in Faenza as permanent home for Alfonso Leoni archive
On January 25, 2026, Galleria Marta will open in Faenza as the permanent exhibition space of the Archivio Alfonso Leoni, dedicated to the radical Italian artist (1941–1980). Located at Corso Baccarini 8A, the gallery will serve as a center for conservation, study, and public presentation of Leoni's work. The official presentation takes place at 10:30 in the MIC Faenza conference room, with mayor Massimo Isola, museum director Claudia Casali, and archive curators Giancarlo and Stefano Paggi. The project was originally conceived by Marta Leoni, the artist's wife and founder of the archive, who died in 2021. It was revived after a suggestion by Claudia Casali in spring 2024. Leoni, trained at the Istituto d'Arte Ballardini and influenced by Angelo Biancini, worked across ceramics, sculpture, painting, graphics, and design, participating in the Triennale di Milano, Quadriennale di Roma, and a group show at the Victoria & Albert Museum in London. The archive project has the patronage of MIC Faenza, the Municipality of Faenza, and the Associazione Amici della Ceramica e del MIC.
