Galleria Fumagalli Opens New Milan Space with Abstract Show
Galleria Fumagalli, founded in Bergamo in 1971 and directed by Stefano Fumagalli and Annamaria Maggi since 1991, has opened a new venue in Milan's Turati district. The gallery, known for its focus on Arte Informale, Arte Povera, and abstraction, has presented 65 solo and 25 group shows, published over 50 volumes, and collaborated with Italian and international museums. The inaugural exhibition, "A personal view of Abstract painting and sculpture," curated by Hayden Dunbar, features Enrico Castellani, Robert Mangold, Robert Morris, and Kenneth Noland, running until September 10, 2016. Upcoming shows include a Jannis Kounellis solo in October 2016 and a Maurizio Nannucci retrospective in February 2017. Maggi cited the need to reactivate research on undervalued artists and movements as a key reason for the move, emphasizing Milan's centrality for attracting collectors, curators, and critics amid a global art fair landscape.
