Galleria Forti Reopens in Verona with Over 150 Works from 1840-1960
Over a thousand people queued outside the Galleria d'Arte Moderna Achille Forti in Verona on a late October Saturday, not for a blockbuster exhibition but to reclaim what they consider the city's true art collection. The newly arranged display, titled 'Dagli ideali risorgimentali di Hayez alla forza liberatrice di Vedova,' spans more than a century of Italian art from 1840 to 1960, featuring over 150 works, including 30 new loans from public and private collections. The reinstallation was overseen by artistic director Patrizia Nuzzo, who succeeded Giorgio Cortenova after his twenty-year tenure. New highlights include a focus on Italian Symbolism, early 20th-century movements such as Ca' Pesaro, Novecento, and Magic Realism. Key additions include works by Antonio Donghi (from UniCredit Art Collection), Ubaldo Oppi, and Achille Funi. The museum also announced a new lecture series, 'Preludio alla bellezza con i capolavori in GAM,' starting November 3 with Luca Massimo Barbero, former director, previewing his exhibition on Tancredi at the Peggy Guggenheim Collection in Venice, opening November 12, 2016. The Galleria Forti has lent Tancredi's 'Cari dolci ricordi del buon tempo andato. La grande Berta' (1961) to that show. The reinstallation was supported by Fondazione Cariverona and Fondazione Domus per l'arte moderna e contemporanea.
