Galleria dell'Accademia di Firenze reopens renovated Gipsoteca after two and a half years
After two and a half years of renovations, the Galleria dell'Accademia di Firenze has reopened its Gipsoteca, part of the "Beyond the David" initiative led by Cecilie Hollberg. This collection showcases over 400 pieces by 19th-century sculptor Lorenzo Bartolini. The renovation process, which was started by former Culture Minister Dario Franceschini, introduced climate control, LED lighting, and new shelving. The walls are adorned in a "color gipsoteca," and additional plaster models are now on display. Enhancements also include a blue-themed Sala del Colosso featuring Giambologna's "Ratto delle Sabine," a new Sala del Quattrocento, and improved lighting in the Galleria dei Prigioni and Tribune. Hollberg remarked that the Gipsoteca finalizes the museum's renewal, which commenced in 2015. Visit https://www.gallerieaccademia.it/.
