Galleria Continua's 30-Year Journey Documented in Sky Arte Film

Sky Arte and TIWI have produced a documentary titled "Galleria Continua. The Ability to Dream" chronicling the 30-year history of Galleria Continua, founded in 1990 by Mario Cristiani, Lorenzo Fiaschi, and Maurizio Rigillo in San Gimignano, Tuscany. The gallery has expanded to eight locations across five continents, representing artists such as Berlinde De Bruyckere, Antony Gormley, Carsten Höller, Anish Kapoor, and Michelangelo Pistoletto. In an interview, Cristiani emphasized the gallery's founding philosophy of "folly" and trust in artists over business plans, citing projects like a crater dug in the gallery floor and a 25-meter-long Gormley sculpture installed by breaking walls. The gallery operates alongside Associazione Arte Continua, a nonprofit that fosters public-private partnerships and develops social projects for local territories. Cristiani noted that the association was inspired by I.M. Pei's Louvre Pyramid, aiming to insert contemporary art into historic contexts. He expressed hope that the gallery's legacy will endure for a thousand years, like the towers of San Gimignano.
