Galleria Continua presents three solo shows in San Gimignano
Galleria Continua in San Gimignano is hosting three concurrent solo exhibitions until May 1, 2016. Juan Araujo (Caracas, 1971) presents "Walled-in Shut," a series of paintings derived from photographic fragments of buildings and landscapes, inspired by Rothko's 1959 trip to Italy and his experience in the vestibule of the Biblioteca Laurenziana. Qiu Zhijie (Zhengzhou, 1969) exhibits "Racing Against Time," featuring 47 works on paper created through traditional rubbing and relief techniques, alongside a paleontological excavation on the gallery floor that traces human evolution through symbols of power and conflict. Reynier Leyva Novo (Havana, 1983) presents "El peso de la muerte," which includes twelve black ink rectangles representing treaties ending recent wars, with ink quantity calculated by software INk 1.0 based on victim numbers. His works also feature fused bullets transformed into weights, agricultural tools made from destroyed weapons, and "El beso de Cristal," 70 crystal glasses projecting shadows of American and Cuban presidents. The exhibition concludes with "No me guardes si me muero," an urn containing ashes of José Martí's writings.
