Galleria Continua Opens New Rome Space at St. Regis Hotel

exhibition · 2026-04-27

Galleria Continua has inaugurated a new venue in Rome at the St. Regis Hotel, near Piazza della Repubblica, marking the gallery's sixth location after San Gimignano, Beijing, Les Moulins, Havana, and its original Tuscan base. The space, previously used for interventions by Pascale Marthine Tayou and Loris Cecchini, now features a large-scale installation by Chinese duo Sun Yuan & Peng Yu, including works 'Teenager Teenager' and 'If I Died'—the latter a dreamlike scene of the artist's mother floating with a manta ray. The inaugural exhibition 'Maturation' by Cuban artist José Yaque presents paintings and an installation of 473 glass bottles containing natural elements, alongside works that simulate geological erosion through layered pigments. The gallery will host two artist residencies per year for emerging artists from developing countries, talks, educational activities for children, and school tours. Founders Mario Cristiani, Lorenzo Fiaschi, and Maurizio Rigillo also plan to open a new public space at the Pacaembu Stadium in São Paulo, Brazil, directed by Akio Aoki, inspired by their encounter with artist Cildo Meirelles.
