Galleria Continua Celebrates Cruz-Diez Centenary with Major Exhibition in San Gimignano

Galleria Continua in San Gimignano is hosting a museum-scale exhibition of Carlos Cruz-Diez, the Franco-Venezuelan kinetic art pioneer, to mark the centenary of his birth. Running until September 10, the show titled "L'euforia del colore" (The Euphoria of Color) traces key moments of his career, from early figurative painting to his post-1959 explorations of color as an autonomous, evolving reality interacting with space and light. The exhibition features iconic works from series such as Physichromie, Couleur Additive, and Induction Chromatique, alongside an immersive Chromointerférent environment (1974/2018) and the circular Environnement de Transchromie Circulaire (1965/2017) in the gallery garden. A public installation in Piazza delle Erbe extends the experience outdoors, reflecting Cruz-Diez's lifelong engagement with urban space. The artist, born in Caracas in 1923 and died in Paris in 2019, was a friend of Jesús Rafael Soto and other intellectuals. His foundation, established in 2005, now manages his legacy. The exhibition is accompanied by a publication "Carlos Cruz-Diez, El Color En El Espacio" by Gli Ori, with text by Laura Salas Redondo.
