Galleria Continua and Belmond Launch MITICO Art Project in Luxury Hotels

exhibition · 2026-04-27

Galleria Continua has partnered with Belmond, a British luxury tourism company, to launch MITICO, a cultural project that places contemporary art in historic Belmond hotels across Italy. The project debuted in Venice during the 59th Venice Biennale. Four renowned artists will create interventions and performances at four Belmond properties. Subodh Gupta is the first, presenting 'Cooking The World' at the Cipriani Hotel in Venice until November 19, 2022. The installation is a large house made from discarded pots, pans, and utensils, within which Gupta performs culinary rituals for guests. Curated by Hervé Mikaeloff, the work explores domesticity and communal dining. Subsequent chapters include Leandro Erlich's 'Window & Ladder' at Villa San Michele in Florence (May 17 to November 7, 2022), Michelangelo Pistoletto's bronze sculptures 'Accarezzare gli alberi (l’Etrusco)' at Castello di Casole in Tuscany (May 18 to November 14, 2022), and Pascale Marthine Tayou's 'Colouring the World' installations at Grand Hotel Timeo in Taormina (May 25 to December 31, 2022). Andrea Guerra, CEO of LVMH Hotels (which owns Belmond), stated that after the hotels, the initiative will extend to Belmond's Venice Simplon-Orient-Express trains. The project aims to blend art, nature, and cuisine, celebrating the art of living.
