Galleria Borghese launches baroque music concerts in live streaming

cultural-heritage · 2026-04-27

The Galleria Borghese in Rome launches 'Musica in Galleria', a research project exploring the Borghese family's patronage of music in the 17th and 18th centuries. The initiative begins on December 23 at 6 PM with a closed-door baroque concert streamed live on the museum's website and social media. The concert features cantatas by Georg Friedrich Händel and sonatas by Arcangelo Corelli, performed by the Solisti dell'Orchestra Barocca Italiana on historical instruments directed by Riccardo Martinini. The Orpheum Foundation of Vienna lent precious instruments, including a 1692 cello by Simone Cimapane once played in Corelli's orchestra. Soprano Rachel Redmond is the soloist, with an ensemble of two baroque violins, a theorbo, and two cellos. The project aims to revive the Borghese musical tradition and promote contemporary composers.
