Galerie Oniris Highlights Three Emerging Artists Ahead of Drawing Now 2022

Galerie Oniris in Rennes, which celebrated its 35th anniversary in fall 2021 and marks 10 years under director Florent Paumelle in 2022, presents three artists from its new generation: Frédéric Bouffandeau, Carole Rivalin, and Soo-Kyoung Lee. Bouffandeau (b. 1966, based in Angers) transforms floral motifs through layering and contrasting colors in paintings, aluminum works, and neon installations; he studied under Philippe Cognée and Jean-Pierre Pincemin at the Beaux-Arts d'Angers. Rivalin (b. 1972, based in Saint-Nazaire) focuses on drawing and in situ works, using pigment markers and pencils on cut supports, and recently reworks vintage topographical maps; she has been with Oniris since 2015 and was part of the Invitation #1 exhibition curated by François Morellet for the gallery's 30th anniversary. Soo-Kyoung Lee (b. 1969, based in Paris and Seoul) creates abstract paintings through layered acrylics, with forms emerging spontaneously; she will have her second solo show at Oniris in late September 2022. Bouffandeau and Rivalin are featured at Drawing Now (May 18–22, 2022), where Oniris has long held a booth.
