Galerie Editors Pick Their Dream Artworks from New York Marquee Week Auctions

Galerie magazine editors curated a wish list of artworks from the New York Marquee Week auctions at Christie's, Phillips, and Sotheby's. Petra Kobayashi chose Kikuo Saito's 2009 painting 'Cerise' from Phillips, admiring its lyrical abstraction. Jacqueline Terrebonne selected Constantin Brancusi's 1913 sculpture 'Danaïde' from Christie's, part of the S.I. Newhouse collection, after seeing a Brancusi exhibition in Rome. Jill Sieracki picked Michaela Yearwood-Dan's 2024 painting 'The girls take their places' from Phillips, noting its response to Monet's gardens. Ryan Waddoups wanted Mark Rothko's 'Brown and Black in Reds' (1957) from Christie's, recalling a Rothko at Centre Pompidou. Rena Gross chose Gerhard Richter's 'Kerze (Candle)' from Christie's, which was owned by Marian Goodman, and also selected Lee Bontecou's 'Untitled' from Sotheby's and Wassily Kandinsky's 'Rote Tiefe (Red Depth)' from Sotheby's, the latter at auction for the first time in 65 years. Gogo Taubman picked René Magritte's 'Femme-bouteille' (1955) from Sotheby's, Leonora Carrington's 'La naguala' (1975) from Sotheby's, and Leonor Fini's 'La chambre d'écho' (1974) from Christie's. Alexandria Sillo chose Jean-Michel Basquiat's 'Museum Security (Broadway Meltdown)' (1983) from Sotheby's, which was part of a 12-piece series and first exhibited at Larry Gagosian Gallery.
