Galeria Jaqueline Martins Opens First International Space in Brussels with Hudinilson Jr. Exhibition
Galeria Jaqueline Martins, in partnership with Yuri Oliveira, is establishing its first physical location outside Brazil in Brussels, Belgium. The gallery selected Brussels for its strong tradition in conceptual practices, aligning with the gallery's core focus. This international expansion follows the gallery's established presence at major art fairs like Frieze New York, Frieze London, Art Basel, and Arco Madrid. Since its founding in 2011, the gallery has developed a research program centered on artistic production during Brazil's dictatorship, particularly in the 1970s and 1980s. The Brussels space opens with an exhibition by Brazilian artist Hudinilson Jr., recognized for his xerography technique and influential role in the Brazilian art scene from the 1970s to 2000s through his work and participation in experimental collectives and exhibitions. Future plans for the Brussels branch include a solo show by artist Ana Mazzei in late January 2021, featuring collaborations with theater, music, and dance artists, with performances documented photographically. An exhibition by Lydia Okumura will begin in April 2021, starting with 1980s paintings and 1970s installations, and will be reconfigured in May to engage with modernist photographers.
